StuartHoegner,GeneralCounselforBitfinex,said:"Evenaftertakingthreefullmonthstoamendtheircomplaint,theplaintiffs'allegationsremainuntetheredtoeitherthefactsorthelaw.Theyconflateperceivedcorrelationwithcausationinanefforttopropuptheoriesthatareuntrueandunsupportable."
Plaintiffs'accusationsstartedwithanacademicpaperwhoseauthorswereforcedtowalkbacktheircentralclaims.Aftertheirfirstargumentfellapart,plaintiffshavedreamedupanunprovenconspiracytheoryinvolvingthreelargecryptocurrencyexchangesandasecretschemetomanipulatethecryptocurrencymarket.Theonlyconsistencyintheirargumentsisthecompletelackofevidence.Plaintiffscherrypickpiecesofinformationandstringthemtogethertoweaveanelaboratestoryunsupportedbytruthorproof.
"WhilesuggestingthesheersizeofthedemandforTethercoupledwithchangesinthemarketclearlyledtoonlyoneconclusion–marketmanipulation–plaintiffsdisregardedtheactualworkingsandfinancialbackingofTether,theoperationsofBitfinex,generalprinciplesofsupplyanddemand,andpubliclyavailableresearchthatconfirmstherewasnomanipulation,"confirmedHoegner."Ifyouseeagroupofpeopleopeningumbrellas,thatdoesn'tmeanthattheycausedittorain."
